Development of Hijuno Card Media to Improve TPQ Children’s Ability to Memorize Hijaiyah Letters in Dusun Gowok

The ability to memorize hijaiyah letters is a fundamental foundation in learning to read the Qur’an at Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPQ). However, field observations revealed serious issues related to students’ low motivation and memorization abilities. This problem was caused by monotonous conventional learning methods, in which students relied solely on the Iqro’ book with an individual queue system and without interactive supporting media. This community service program aimed to develop and implement an innovative learning medium called HIJUNO Cards (Hijaiyah Uno) to improve the effectiveness of memorizing hijaiyah letters. The implementation method included several stages: observation of the objective situation, digital media design, card production through printing and laminating, socialization of game rules to teachers, direct implementation, and evaluation. The results demonstrated highly positive changes in the learning dynamics. The use of HIJUNO Cards significantly increased students’ enthusiasm, as reflected in their willingness to remain at the TPQ to continue playing while learning even after class hours had ended. Through a game mechanism adapted from Uno cards, students naturally repeated the pronunciation of hijaiyah letters without feeling burdened. The final evaluation indicated an improvement in students’ accuracy in recognizing similar letters through the use of color features and action symbols within the game. It can be concluded that HIJUNO Cards are effective in creating an enjoyable learning atmosphere while strengthening students’ memory of hijaiyah letters through a collaborative play-based learning approach.
